The Innkeepers

Matt is no stranger to small town life as a native of rural New York state. A Kansan for nearly 15 years now, Matt brings that “dual citizenship” to hosting with midwest hospitality and northeastern simple practicality.

Scott grew up in Paola, launching his career in hospitality in high school at the local Pizza Hut. After many years as a bartender and restaurant manager in Washington DC, Scott returned to Paola. Now, he splits his time between Kaskaskia Place and Somerset Schoolhouse, bringing his talents to the area’s premiere speakeasy.

Where It Started

Not long after Scott brought Matt out to Kansas, they spun their 1882 rural farmhouse into a farmstay bed & breakfast, “Netherfield.” Quickly, news spread of the one-of-a-kind getaway with unparalleled charm and hospitality, earning Scott and Matt numerous awards, as well as coverage in regional and national media, including “One Tank Trips” and Food & Wine magazine.

In 2022, we began Kaskaskia Place as a downtown spin-off from the farm B&B, providing a quality, distinctive lodging experience for Paola visitors. In time, when the pace of life had to slow, Matt and Scott said goodbye to the daily demands of the farm, retiring the farmstay in spring of 2024 after a decade of success and memories. Kaskaskia Place now allows these consummate hosts to share their eclectic style, attention to detail, and charming kindness with their guests.
